With the 2016 vintage of Silverpoint Cellars Napa Valley Red Wine, we continue our pursuit of a signature proprietary blend of Napa Valley fruit from mountain and valley floor vineyards. Our valley fruit is entirely Cabernet Sauvignon from the famed Rutherford Bench (Ithaca Vineyard, Highway 29 at Whitehall Lane). Our mountain fruit, which includes our three Bordeaux blending grapes, come from the Antinori Family Estate (Antica), 1600 feet above the Napa Valley. As with our Chardonnays, our goal is to create textured, layered and complex wines.
Our 2016 vintage combines 79% Cabernet Sauvignon with 7% each of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
Winemaker’s notes
Grapes for our Napa Valley Red Wine were carefully sorted, de-stemmed and pressed prior to open top fermentation. Malolactic fermentation was completed in French oak barrels. Our Cabernet Sauvignon and our three Bordeaux blending varietals were aged separately for three years in French oak barrels (50% new). We then blended and later bottled the finished wine for an additional seven months of aging prior to its release on October 1, 2020. 107 total cases were produced.
Tasting notes
Lush and dense fruit with notes of black raspberry. Hints of cedar. Graceful and refined. The long finish is smooth, seamless and seductive.
